Technology Market

Yesterday evening I was on a debate on the forecasts for the present year on ICT market. It was a bit of a letany... SMB are not reached, education must change to put Technology in the very center, Enterprises did not understand what technology actually does in its businesses... among all these known statements some fresh ones appear. Jaime García, from IDC, based his exposition talking about processes, intelligence and innovation.
As I commented in an article published in a previous post, the most growing demanded capabilities for the workers in the present enterprises are: Expert Thinking, Communication and Creativity. Actually those that can not (yet) be implemented in an algorithm and wait a computer to do it.
Another interesting thing was the explicitation of the difference between invention and innovation (originally expressed with a comment on Lordi). It is clear that innovation and invention are not the same, but are them independent? Is consequence of the lack of research investment in our country the bad levels of innovation in enterprises or is just by chance?
Additionally the issue on the decreasing figures of students in ICT related university degrees appeared. Has it anything to do with the lack of a resilent research career in Spain? Or maybe with the slave-like conditions of starting IT workers of the past years?
To end with, convergence. But not convergence as a product but as a philosophy. We must realize that only things that can converge may success. Till now almost anything good enough could success but user and enterprises don't want something that just performs well, it must also do it aligned with the several somethings that also do it and help to reduce the interfacing, shifting costs that swallow revenues.
